A lovely day for walking the beach , the tide was in, sand had covered much of the detritus. Collected small, dead ,dried pipe fish which seem to litter the beach again. A good day for thinking. Watched the waves and the sun going down across the river.

Halifax

I’m at Dean Clough now, looking at the exhibition, it looks good. Thanks to everyone there.

cold

Cold, bitterly cold, windy, roaring noise from the sea blown waves. The marram grass quivers like the hair on a large arm brown now from the burning salt winds, it rustles like the erect tail feathers on a peacocks tail, beautiful yet menacing.
Lots of plastics to find today , lumps of tar, hundreds of dead pipe fish.
I met an interesting man hunting for evidence of sewage among the seaweed debris, its not hard to find.

whale

My first visit inside the lighthouse studio, a really interesting space. I think the shape will have an effect on the artwork I produce there, I’m thinking long and thin, blocks of colour. The view from the top is wonderful; one can really see the fragility and that we are so very small in the expanse of sea.
A large whale has been washed up on the riverside @60, it stinks lots, but is quite interesting to see. The university boffins are desluffing the bones to preserve them.

dandilion spiral

there has been a little concern that the flowers may have been picked on the nature reserve, this is against the NNR policy. This spiral was created in my back garden from plants in my grass. i go for the natural look in garden landscaping, more time for art.

its bright and breezy, same as me. good walk around the point. collected some plastics, found a few heels. we didn't see the seals that were there last saturday with P@P.
Great day to start a new project.

18.12.06 sand spiral

very misty along the coast road. cold and bright at spurn. sun trying to burn through.Nice and deserted today along the beach.there has been no high tides, lots of footprints at the top of the beach.
i created a good spiral in the sand today.starting in the middle and working outwards i feel very focused on the piece and the art i am creating, i seem to be able to think really wellat the time.
i met a man who talked about fossiling for profit , it felt a little like pillaging the beach, it wasn't science,the finds were not recorded and left behind.
i collected more plastic detritus for my collages, soon to be exhibited at dean clough galleries in halifax,uk.,18 january 2007.

spurn point start

anxious, nervous ,this is a first for me.
i am going to use this space to document my time as AIR in 2007, starting on january 1st

Spurn Point is a fast disappearing stretch of the
East Yorkshire coastline.
It has been the greatest influence on my artistic endeavours for the last twenty years and my life since I was seven years old, living at Paull on the Humber bank.

A fascination with painting and drawing naturally led me to this raw spit of land where I started to record my impressions. A love of collecting and beachcombing conspired to bring me to the artworks I create now. Through my art therapy work I am interested in the process of creating art and I have let that process take me where it will.
